Estate Closing and DischargeFlorida workflow

Handle Later-Discovered Assets and Subsequent Florida Probate Administration

Preserve a newly discovered asset or other post-closing issue, verify its estate connection, petition in the original probate file, confirm the court's exact renewed authority, and complete a controlled supplemental administration and closeout.

Core lesson: 100-105 minutes Reviewed against 11 official and supporting sources

Goal & what you need

Goal

Prevent unauthorized collection or distribution, duplicate probate files, assumptions that old letters revive automatically, missed ownership and tax issues, and incomplete supplemental records.

What you need

  • Closed Florida probate estate with accessible original file, discharge order, prior inventory, accounting, and distribution record
  • Verified notice of possible additional property or another reason for further administration, preserved without unauthorized action
  • Responsible lawyer assigned to decide estate ownership, interested-person status, petition strategy, fiduciary appointment, notice, collection, claims, taxes, distribution, and closeout

Check your firm’s process. This lesson teaches a safe general workflow. Your firm’s software, folder names, naming rules, retention steps, and escalation contacts may differ. If you are unsure, stop and ask your supervisor.
