Document StatusMicro SOP

Distinguish Draft, Signed, Filed, and Entered Documents

Recognize a document's actual lifecycle status by evidence and label or store it without overstating what happened.

Core lesson: 5-10 minutes Reviewed against 8 authoritative and vendor sources

Goal & what you need

Goal

Identify Draft, Signed, Filed, Entered, and Served status from authoritative evidence rather than filenames.

What you need

  • Access to the approved matter repository.
  • Access to the document and related signature, filing, or docket evidence.
  • For court filings, access to the Florida Courts E-Filing Portal or applicable clerk docket.
  • A designated supervisor or responsible lawyer for conflicts and deadline questions.

Check your firm’s process. This lesson teaches a safe general workflow. Your firm’s software, folder names, naming rules, retention steps, and escalation contacts may differ. If you are unsure, stop and ask your supervisor.
